“I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.” Job 42:2

God is sovereign. He orders everything, controls everything, and rules over everything.

His sovereignty often leads us to worshipful amazement. We marvel at His intellect and wisdom in guiding all our circumstances. We are amazed by His ability to move every molecule in existence. We stand in awe at His command over all the creatures, the stars, and even every human on earth.

Yet, as awesome as God’s sovereignty is, don’t forget that God’s sovereign control cannot be divorced from His over-arching goal – His own glory. God does all things to glorify His own name. God created man for His own glory (Isaiah 49:3). God rescued the Israelites from Egypt for His own glory (Psalm 106:7-8). God sent His Son to die for the sins of mankind for His own glory (Romans 3:25-26, John 12:27-28).

Which leads us to this question: What about you? Do you live to glorify God’s name? If God’s purpose is to magnify His glory, what is your purpose? Indeed, God’s sovereignty is intellectually stimulating to discuss, but it should also be a driving force that brings us to our knees to give Him praise and honor. Let us remember God’s sovereignty, and give God His due glory.
